Rating:  3/10 ?

Comment: Although set in 1958 (I think all parts, including the spin-offs), there are some shorts that appear shiny or sort of. I have briefly checked all or almost all parts. Mainly older teen boys / young men including Momo (Bobby) shirtless in tight black shorts (pic 3 from Lemon Popsicle VII). Also there one young man in dark blue shorts and one in grey.

Pic 1 showing a young man in light blue shorts, I think from movie 1. Pic 2 showing a young boy in medium blue shorts in movie 8 (Summertime Blues: Lemon Popsicle VIII, 1988). Probably some more supporting actors. Also cotton shorts and speedos. I mainly remember movie 3 with a young boy completely without clothes and peeing on Johnny, buried in the sand. Maybe they don’t pay much attention of the actors in the background. Shiny shorts (except for boxers) were rare in the 1950s (up to the late 70s) and anachronistic to me.

Revenge of the Nerds II reminds me of this series. Original title (part 1)  אסקימו לימון

Most boys are very old. Rather few shiny shorts. And nowadays not very funny.

So rating 2-3 only.

Also soon on my sailor suit blog and pigtails blog.

Update: There are also older teen girls in tight, blue shorts in film #1, but not sure if these are shiny. One pic on my pigtails blog, rating 5.

Saint Ralph

Comment: Adam Butcher around 15 or 16 as 14 yo Ralph first shirtless in and outside a pool in wet, dark, almost black appearing loose-fitting swim shorts near the beginning. Also a younger boy in beige/ yellow swim shorts. Both also sitting on the ground. Ralph and other boys at PE in light grey cotton shorts climbing up a rope. Dry, light green swim shorts of Ralph at 38 minutes. Maybe the same as before? Later running in dark blue and black track shorts. Also some men in different shorts including blue and white.

All shorts are probably not shiny in the 1950s. So that’s why I hesitated to add this movie. Best is of course the funny scene in the pool, probably everybody knows. Also underwater scenes. Dark shorts often appear at least shiny when wet. Similar shorts in “Simon Birch” set in the 60s (rating 8).

Quite boring movie, and in fact only 2 brief scenes of interest.

Rating 5-6 only. I don’t watch this DVD often.

Comment: There are mainly older teen boys wrestling, some wearing sweat pants and dark blue and red short over them. Also grey shorts but not shiny. One younger boy (pictured) in dark red shorts with a thick yellow stripe. Not sure about the fabric and if really shiny. One very brief scene of him, I think shirtless in the locker room. Another brief scene of the shorts earlier, also close-up.

Famous movie starring Robin Williams as grown-up Garp, but I always watch these scenes at the beginning. I think the setting is in the 1950s there. As there are few shiny shorts movies set in the 50s, I include this as well.

Very few good scenes of the young boy.

Rating 3-4 only.

Comment: Jay St. Onge shirtless and wet in dark blue, shiny appearing short shorts sitting on the ground at 15 minutes. White inner briefs or underwear underneath. Two brief swimming scenes in the movie #3 “Race Against Nightfall” also reissued as “Revival Villains”. Some few others in shorts in this and the other volumes. Dragonfly swimming in jeans shorts and Big Jim and girl Circus in dark shorts as well also coming out of the water, but not or not that shiny. Bill grey cotton shorts or underwear. Big Bob Till in overalls in the water.

Dragonfly and Bill in shorts in I think movie #1 Swamp Robber and I think at least one boy (Big Jim ?) in shorts in movie #2 Great Canoe Fish, but very brief scenes.

Of course also several perfect scenes of boys in bib overalls (including Little Jim but he in movie # 5 only).

More infos on my overalls blog, rating 10 (TOP 2), also on my bedroom blog, rating 5 and my pigtails blog rating 8.

For the shiny shorts, rating 7-8.

1950s and 60s shorts are often not really shiny, compared to the 1970s and 80s synthetic fabrics. Often appearing shiny only when wet. So I mainly focus on the 70s and 80s.

As usual no indescent/shirtless pics. So this pic, later in the movie to identify the actor.

Comment: Older teen boys/young men in perfect shiny yellow short Basketball shorts. Also white, medium green and dark blue shiny shorts. Light grey and maybe other white shorts are probably not shiny. Best are definitely the yellow shorts including good rear views and sitting scenes. I didn’t know that there were shiny shorts available in 1951. Maybe rather silk instead of the modern synthetic fabric? First entry tagged 1950s. At least 2 more to come.

The other problem is, that most or all actors of the High School are quite old. I think around 20 yo. According to the plot they should be 17. But is there any actor of that age?

I don’t know the complete movie, yet and hope for a soon broadcasting. Music by Jerry Goldsmith. Also starring Dennis Hopper.

Rating 4 for now only.
